Staff Sergeant Mike Kuziemski #6411 – Donation
$0.00
Please support Staff Sergeant Mike Kuziemski #6411. As you may or may not know, Mike was diagnosed with a rare incurable blood cancer in early August of 2024 called Multiple Myeloma. Multiple myeloma is a cancer of plasma cells. The plasma cells are a type of white blood cell in the bone marrow. With this condition, a group of plasma cells becomes cancerous and multiplies. The disease can damage the bones, immune system, kidneys, and red blood count. After healing from a fracture in his spine, requiring kyphoplasty surgery, and several smaller fractures in his lower back caused by the cancer, Mike began Chemotherapy. Although this type of cancer will never disappear, it is considered treatable.
After 7 months of treatment through Sloan Kettering, Mike has reached a point where he is eligible for a stem cell replacement. Mike will be admitted to Sloan in New York for 3-4 weeks while he gets the transplant. During this procedure, his stem cells are extracted and frozen, which was successful. On April 5th, Mike began the process of the transplant by receiving a heavy dose of Chemo which eliminates all the bad cells in his blood as well as the good cells which is leaving his immune system severely compromised. On April 7th, Mike will undergo the transplant and need to be closely monitored as risk of infection is high.
His wife Jocelyn is the primary caregiver for him during this time and have to be with Mike in NY for the month as well as for months after while at home. During this time, Jocelyn, a high school English teacher, will be taking leave from work while friends and family members are holding down the house looking after their two daughters, Kendall & Kadyn while Mike & Joecelyn are away getting treatment. This has been a life altering and emotional journey and we are doing everything we can to support them through this treatment. We are asking help from the community to offset costs of treatment, transportation, medication and time away from work that insurance doesn’t cover or may not cover down the road.
Any donation, no matter how small, will go directly to Mike’s care and recovery. If your not able to give right now sharing this message can make a big difference.
Thank you so much for your kindness and support.
